VISTA — Vista Soroptimists are currently seeking qualified candidates who, as head of their household, must enter or return to work and are in the process of improving their educational skills to better their employment prospects. Applicants may be enrolled in any higher education or labor training program to be considered for this local award of $1,000.
This financial award will enable the recipient to reach her goal of providing for her children, and thereby improve her economic status. Soroptimists strongly believe in a helping “hand up” to women who are struggling to gain financial security for themselves and their families.
Past recipients have often suffered severe financial losses due to domestic violence, severe illness, death, or other extreme family circumstances. This Women’s Opportunity Award is the major educational project supported by local SIV fundraising events.
Awards are made to recipients by individual clubs throughout 19 countries and territories. Winners from each participating club will go on to compete at the regional level. Each of the 29 regions of Soroptimist International of the Americas will then compete for multiple awards in the amounts of $3,000 and $5,000. A Federation finalist will receive a $10,000 award.
