OCEANSIDE — The real and original “Gidget,” Kathy Kohner, is coming to Oceanside for the California Surf Festival at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Brooks Theater, 217 N. Coast Highway.
The event will include a VIP Party from 6 to 7 p.m. with food, drinks and mingling before the screening of “Accidental Icon: The Real Gidget Story.”
The cost, including the VIP reception, is $25. General admission is $10.

This event kicks off the five days of concerts, movies, parties, book-signings, surfing legends appearances of the third annual California Surf Festival.
Come hear Kohner’s account of surfing Malibu in the mid-1950s when the sport was just beginning to burgeon. Her beach antics and story became the basis for her father’s best-selling novel as well as an enduring Hollywood movie/TV franchise and a slice of pure Americana.
Also appearing at this historic screening will be film director Brian Gillogly.
The California Surf Museum serves as an international repository and resource center for the lifestyle sport of surfing through capturing, preserving and chronicling its art, culture and heritage for the education and enjoyment of future generations. The California Surf Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit located at 312 Pier View Way, Oceanside. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended hours Thursdays to 8 p.m.
