Elderly woman struck by car backing out

CARLSBAD — At about 1:14 p.m. Sept. 19. Carlsbad police responded to a serious injury traffic collision in the driveway of one of the homes on the 3500 block of Celinda Drive. Carlsbad police and Fire Department personnel responded and located an elderly female lying in the driveway with head and torso injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicated that an elderly female was backing a vehicle out of the driveway. The victim, another elderly female, was behind the vehicle and as the vehicle was backing out, it caught her between the left rear of the vehicle and another parked vehicle in the driveway. As the backing movement proceeded, the victim was released from between the vehicles and fell to the ground.
The victim was transported via the Carlsbad Fire Department to the football field at Carlsbad High School, where she was transported to Scripps La Jolla Trauma Hospital via air ambulance.
No drugs or alcohol are suspected in this collision. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The victim’s condition is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
