Parade honors military history

OCEANSIDE — The Independence Day Parade on July 3 celebrated 68 years of military history in Oceanside with George Brown, the executive director of the Armed Services YCMA, serving as parade grand marshal.
The 1st Marine Division Band, Camp Pendleton Young Marines, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Daughters of the American Revolution, Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Riders were among the 80-plus entries in the parade.
This year no prizes were awarded for entries, but just as much fun was had. Bands, floats, twirlers and classic cars made their way down Coast Highway 101 from Wisconsin Street to Civic Center Drive providing spectators two hours of entertainment.
