Lowe’s shouldn’t trump creek

How many Carlsbad residents know there is a creek that runs along Palomar Airport Road? It is one of those hidden treasures that makes our city special. The city trail system follows part of the creek where employees in the adjacent businesses are often seen biking or hiking during their lunch hours. Now they are planning to put a Lowe’s store on what is the headwaters of this little creek. This project, known as Palomar Commons, will treat the creek like a drainage channel. Who wants to join me for a nice hike along a drainage channel, through a parking lot, into a culvert? Please tell the city council you prefer natural creeks to concrete lined channels. This is not a good trade-off in order to get one more big box store.
