CARLSBAD — Laurie McCormick, who serves as office assistant sub-finder operator for personnel services, was honored on April 28 by the Carlsbad Unified School District board of trustees as the April 2010 Classified Employee of the Month.
“Ms. McCormick arrives at work by 6 a.m. to ensure that each classroom with an absent teacher is filled with a qualified substitute,” said her nominator, Assistant Superintendent Personnel Services Torrie Norton. “ When the personnel office kicks into high gear around 7:30 a.m., Laurie has already communicated with each site’s administrative assistant to find the perfect substitute for each classroom. When the classes are filled with teachers, Laurie is busy filling assignments for future absences, taking photos for employee ID badges, filing papers in employee files and inputting data. If we need switchboard coverage, Laurie is the first to volunteer. Despite her hectic schedule, her morning smile continues throughout the day.”
A smiling Laurie McCormick accepted her award from Torrie Norton. “I’m so honored to have been selected,” McCormick said. “I am very fortunate to have a job that I love to go to every day.”
Classified employees of the month are nominated by district administrators for consistently performing above and beyond in the scope of their jobs.
