Students awarded in flag contest

SAN MARCOS — Several elementary and middle school students in San Marcos were recognized recently for their participation in a flag contest that was held in conjunction with the annual Carnival of Cultures. Students in grades kindergarten through fifth were asked to design a flag representing their cultural background or heritage.
More than 10,000 students in San Marcos were invited to participate. The contest winners were announced at the city of San Marcos Carnival of Cultures at the San Marcos Civic Center on March 28.
In addition to ribbons and certificates, the winners received prizes donated by local businesses. The first place winners in each age category received lunch for their entire classrooms compliments of Chick fil A in San Marcos.
