Suspects sought in deadly Cardiff-by-the-Sea fight

CARDIFF-BY-THE-SEA — San Diego County Crime Stoppers and Investigators from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Encinitas Station are asking for assistance from the public in identifying the suspect responsible for throwing a fatal punch during a fight.
Investigators said that on Feb. 27 at about 2 a.m., two groups of males were involved in a fight. Both groups exited Yogi’s Beach Bar and Restaurant, located at 2633 S. Coast Highway 101 in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, after having had several alcoholic drinks. While returning to their vehicles, a fight broke out in front of Ki’s Restaurant, located at 2591 S. Coast Highway 101. During the fight, which involved several military men, Thomas Elliot was punched in the face and knocked unconscious. He fell to the ground hitting his head on the pavement. Elliot was later flown to an area hospital where he remained unconscious and in a coma. He was placed on life support but never regained consciousness. Life support was discontinued on March 5 and Thomas Elliot died the next day.
A medical examination determined that Thomas Elliot died as a result of a blunt force head injury.
Investigators are asking anyone with information on the identity and or location of the persons responsible for this crime to call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
