SILVER BEAVER RECIPIENT

From left, Andy Brown congratulates his father Walter Brown, of Oceanside, on winning the 2010 Silver Beaver award for Distinguished Service to Youth, joined by his wife Kathy Brown and Anne Brown. The Silver Beaver award is the highest honor a Boy Scout Council can bestow upon a volunteer. The award is given to only those persons who have given continued, unselfish and effective service through programs of the Boy Scouts of America. Brown is a self-employed civil engineer and has served on the San Diego Regional Standards Committee for 10 years and currently serves as a Safety Assessment Engineer in the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. Walter has been active in scouting for the past 30 years and currently is a Santa Margarita District Committee Member and an Eagle Board of Review Member. Walter has been the coordinator with the Pets are Wonderful Support program in both Vista and Oceanside helping to provide animal companions for the elderly.
