City offers free sandbags, responds to potential flooding

OCEANSIDE — Due to the possibility of heavy rains this week and the potential for flooding, the city of Oceanside is offering free sand and sandbags immediately at two locations.
There is a 30-bag limit per resident with proof of residency which can be verified with a California driver’s license or other photo identification. Residents must bring a shovel, pail, or bucket to place the sand in the bags.
Sand and sandbags will be available at the City Operations Center, or COC, at 4927 Oceanside Blvd. from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the front counter inside the COC to check in for sand and sandbag distribution. Sand and bags will also be available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Fire Station Three, at Oceanside Boulevard at El Camino Real.
There are also a number of local businesses that sell sandbags or bags filled with sand. Those businesses include:
• Home Depot, 3838 Vista Way, bags and sand
• Home Depot, 5755 Mission Avenue, bags only
• Denault’s True Value Hardware, 3766 Mission Avenue, bags only
• Lowe’s, 115 Old Grove. Road, bags and sand
The sand and bags provided by the city are free to residents. Residents are asked to remember to bring a shovel to place sand in bags. The sand and bags offered at the business establishments listed are for sale.
