Carlsbad Police Department K9s shine

CARLSBAD — The Carlsbad Police Department K9s and their handlers returned with high marks from a recent competition in Riverside County Nov. 13 and Nov. 14 against teams from all over California, Nevada and Mexico. The competition included both narcotics detection and patrol work.
In narcotics detection, Carlsbad Police Corp. Torrey Cluett and his K9 partner Raven took fifth out of 78 competitors. Cluett and Raven also accumulated the highest number of points for the day, earning the Top Dog Award.
In the patrol competition, Carlsbad Police Corp. Allen Severy and partner K9 Arlo also placed fifth out of 77 competitors. The patrol portion includes obedience, agility, area search, building search and protection while the K9s were exposed to distractions and new environments.
