ENCINITAS — “Artists by Artists,” will present 27 special portraits of local artists portraying fellow artists, at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive, through Jan. 4, 2010.
“Last year I was in a show called ‘Movers and Shakers’ in San Diego and I liked the idea so much I ‘appropriated’ it. OK, I stole it,” said Mary Fleener, curator of the Artists by Artists exhibit. “I wanted, instead, to focus on people who live in the Encinitas area and are working at their art and making their art work for them.”
The public is invited to attend an Artists’ Reception from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec.13 at Encinitas Library. The Encinitas Library is open Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. For more information, call (760) 753-7376.
“I selected 27 artists and some musicians who I think are important. Some have gained a certain amount of notoriety, some are internationally famous and some simply well known in their community,” Fleener said. “The artists selected to do the portraits are business owners, teachers, models, but all are artists in their own right.”
Models and artists were matched by drawing names out of a hat. The display will feature portraits of Danny Salzhandler by D. Goth; Robert Nanninga by Vanessa Lemen; Alec McTurk by Ana Clark; Rodney McCoubrey by Anne Julian; Mary Fleener by Fred Caldwell; David J by Scott Saw; Jerry Waddle by Max Dolberg; Scrojo by Mary Fleener and Diane Stacey by Cheryl Tall.
It also includes Jim and Linda Hornung by Faith Lindley; Brad Schneider by Scrojo; Rob Machado by Rodney McCoubrey; Paul Williams by Drew Snyder; Mike Totah by Diane Stacey; Jeremy Wright by Jean Krumbein; Vanessa Lemen by Brian Weisz; Ron Lemen by Dody Tucker; Kevin Anderson by Jim Hornung; Cindy Lee Berryhill by Ron Lemen; Manuelita Brown by Kevin Anderson; Julia Gray by Jack Quick; Sheri Fox by Roz Light; Jack Quick by Bryson Stein; Roz Light by Nancy Nelson; RAW by Scott Lynd; Dody Tucker by Taina Ringeride and Scott Saw by Mary Fleener.
