OCEANSIDE — A North County jury on Nov. 20 found two reputed Samoan gang members guilty of killing Joaquin Pruitt and shooting another teenager during the summer of 2005. Situe Toluao and Peni Siulua, both now 26, were convicted of Pruitt’s murder and the attempted murder of 19-year-old Sean Oates. Additionally the jury found true gang and gun allegations. The two men opened fire on the two teenagers as they and several other friends got into Pruitt’s light blue Cadillac in Oceanside’s Mesa Margarita neighborhood on June 28, 2005. Neither Pruitt or Oates were gang members. The duo faces 50 years to life in prison when they are sentenced, Deputy District Attorney Terri Perez said. A sentencing date was set for Jan. 27, 2010.
