Fundraiser helps toddler’s cancer battle

ENCINITAS — In June of 2009, toddler Nathan Axson was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma.
Now 3 years old, Nathan has undergone several surgeries, continuing chemotherapy and had major surgery the first week of November. Nathan, his parents Tony and Susan and his little sister Charlotte, are Oceanside residents, but friends and family are inviting residents from all of North County to join them for a special fundraising event at 2 p.m. Nov. 21 at Mr. Peabody’s, 136 Encinitas Blvd. The night will rock with music by Shoreline Rootz, Fulabula and other bands, along with complimentary food, a no-host bar, raffles and a silent auction.
A pre-event donation of $25 gets you on the guest list, or you can pay $30 at the door. For every drink sold, Peabody’s will donate $1 to Nathan’s fund. Donations can be sent to Jennifer Lee, 4253 Quapaw Ave., San Diego, 92117. Donations can be made via Paypal at www.johnstookey.net/nathanfundraiser/.
For more information on Nathan and his brave journey, readers can follow Susan Axson’s blog at her Web site, www.caringbridge.org/visit/nathanaxson.
On the site, his mother explained that as of Nov. 5, Nathan had just come out of surgery and was in the intensive care ward. The surgery lasted 12 hours but “it went well,” she said. Nathan is currently enrolled in Children’s Oncology Group receiving the best therapies available.
They had to wait five days for the pathology results, and they anticipate recovery to take about 10 days. Help Nathan survive by joining the party Nov. 21.
