SOLANA BEACH — Applications are currently being accepted for the 2009-2010 Community Grant Program, which has provided funding since 2004 to nonprofit, community-based, nongovernmental groups that serve Solana Beach and its residents.
The $25,000 available for the program is part of the general fund budget. Coast Waste Management and EDCO Waste and Recycling Services, the city’s two waste haulers, each contribute $5,000.
Priority will be given to new projects or programs, ones that are creative and original, or those that provide a “new or unique twist on an existing program,” according to the staff report. When possible, applicants are encouraged to form partnerships with other funding organizations.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 29 at City Hall, 635 S. Coast Highway 101. Council members will begin the review process Nov. 18. Grant recipients will be announced Dec. 9.
Projects for which grants are given must be completed between Jan. 1 and Oct. 31, 2010. Exceptions will be allowed with proof of good cause. Financial reports and receipts will be required. Last year’s recipients include Solana Beach Soccer Club, Solana Beach Little League, Project Turnaround, the Community Resource Center, Casa de Amistad, Kids Korps, the Virginia Ann Scheunemann Memorial Fund and the Solana Beach PTA. Grant amounts ranged from $900 to $3,000.
