ENCINITAS — The San Dieguito Heritage Museum presents the 2009 Lima Bean Cook-Off and Talent Show. Sept. 25 through Sept. 27.
The Lima Bean committee is looking for local talent willing to perform for…well…beans. Send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to be part of the fun. All the talent acts must incorporate a lima bean in some way.
Following tequila tastings presented by El Duende Tequila, the show starts at 7 p.m. A Lima Bean Cook-off will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 26, at the museum site, 450 Quail Gardens Drive. The Lima Bean committee is also looking for amateur creative cooks, professional chefs, and restaurants to enter, with four categories: Classic Comfort, Savory Soup, Creative Ethnic, and Anything Else. There will People’s Choice Awards and the best of the best as judged by a panel of three celebrity judges with lima bean trophies and other prizes awarded.
The day will include lima beans provided by growers in the Lima Bean Council of California, poker and bingo games, craft and jewelry vendors, children’s activities and a fashion show, plus Verna the Caricaturist.
From 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27 there will be a picnic by the chefs at La Costa Glen along with the Lima Bean Talent Show with Joel Ward the Magician as the master of ceremonies. Reservations for lunch are required. The cost is $25 for lunch and the show.
