Former patient raises more money for hospital

LA COSTA — Thirteen-year-old Keri Jucha, a former patient at Rady Children’s Hospital, made a special delivery to the hospital Aug. 26. The young La Costa resident recently raised $7,000 as part of a Bat Mitzvah project and bought 10 Toshiba laptops and five DVD players for patients to use while in the hospital.
In August of 2006, Jucha was hospitalized and diagnosed with a brain abscess as a result of a sinus infection. While at Rady Children’s Hospital, she was given beads that she later turned into a fundraising project by beading more than 100 necklaces and bracelets. She sold them on an online auction and raised almost $8,000 for Rady Children’s. With the money she bought a home movie system for the hospital playroom, a big portable screen, projector, sound system, DVDs, DVD players and dozens of beanie babies. Jucha has raised more than $15,000 for Rady Children’s during the last three years. For more information on her activities, visit
