City packs multiple events into Taste of Del Mar

DEL MAR — The city of Del Mar has planned a day jammed with activities for everyone in the family Oct. 3.
From noon to 4 p.m., nosh away during Taste of Del Mar 2009, an annual celebration of art and cuisine. This event features a free Art Stroll, ticketed restaurant and wine and ale tasting, a pet stroll, live music and a children’s interactive art area. The Art Stroll showcases juried, original artwork and farmers market vendors.

The day’s Art Stroll is free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring original works by over 80 artists. Enjoy strolling in the village, meeting the artists and viewing sculpture, paintings, photography, ceramics and fine jewelry.
The Children’s Art Activities, also from noon to 4 p.m., will be sponsored by the Del Mar Visitors Association and the Del Mar Branch of the San Diego County Library. The library is providing hands-on art activities for toddlers to teens, including mandalas, baby hand prints and masks. Bring the family to watch a Scripps Performing Art Academy
performance , have fun with the Rose Art Center or paint shoes for “Walk a Mile in My Art Shoes.” Everyone can get a glittery face and body painting by Betty Lovegren and enjoy the display of children’s’ art work from Del Mar Heights Elementary, Del Mar Hills, Winston School and the Rose Art Center.
Starting at 10 a.m. will be the Pet Stroll. Stroll with your favorite pet and pick up pet treats at participating locations. Come by the event information booths at the corner of 15th Street and 11th Street and Camino Del Mar for more information the day of the event. Parking is complimentary and shuttle transportation to and from the event are available at the Del Mar Shores/Winston School at 215 9th St. in Del Mar.
The event still has many opportunities for volunteers to staff various positions between 6 a.m. through 7 p.m. Typically, volunteers work for two- or three-hour shifts. Volunteer duties include information and ticket booth staffing, messengers, assisting visitors, checking-in artists or assisting with children’s art activities, set-up and clean-up.
