Youngsters bring ‘Suessical’ to stage

OCEANSIDE — Get ready for an evening of song and comedy when “Seussical: The Musical” opens at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and Aug. 15 the Sunshine Brooks Theater, 217 N. Coast Highway 101. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for children, and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/73470 or www.ncsarts.org/tickets.html.
Encinitas resident Andrew Scher, 16, plays the lead role of Horton the Elephant. Encinitas residents Madison Ma, 11, and Hannah Dickinson, 15, play the roles of Jo-Jo and Mayzie LaBird, respectively. Carlsbad resident Ashley Avan, 17, plays the role of Gertrude McFuzz. Some 28 other children from North County have supporting roles in this two-act production. “Seussical” is the North County School of the Arts’ first full-length production.
The play follows the adventures of Horton, an elephant who hears voices coming from a tiny speck of dust (the smallest planet in the universe). Based on the characters and stories by Theodore Geisel, known as Dr. Seuss.
North County School of the Arts co-founder Pamela Laurent serves as the artistic director for the production. North County School of the Arts co-founder Scott Gregory is the music director. Holly Ireland is the choreographer. For more information, visit www.ncsarts.org.

    Great Show. Congratulations to my granddaughter Annie, and the entire case of Seussical the Muscial. Their dedication and hard work all summer truly paid off. Pamela, Scott & Holly led the ensemble cast to wonderful performances and a top notch production!
