Driver strikes light pole, fire hydrant

ENCINITAS — An Encinitas man struck a light pole and fire hydrant at the roundabout at Leucadia Boulevard and Hermes Avenue in Leucadia shortly after 6 p.m. on June 20. Charles Langer Haggins was driving eastbound on a flat tire and speeding into the roundabout when he lost control of his vehicle, according to Sgt. Thomas Yancey of the Encinitas Sheriff’s station. Water erupted from the hydrant and flooded the intersection.
A case of Corona was found in the backseat of Haggins’ car, Sgt. Yancey said. Deputies issued Haggins’ a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Haggins was then transported to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
