CARLSBAD — Carlsbad’s Stagecoach Park was filled to overflowing with thousands of dancers and picnickers the evening of June 19 as blues combo Canned Heat opened up the summer’s season of TGIF Jazz in the Parks concerts. These free concerts, put on by the city of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office, have been a staple of summer entertainment since 1986.
“It’s a family event, an occasion to be outside and enjoy this wonderful weather,” said Sunny Johnson, who drove all the way from San Marcos with her family for the event.
The summer concerts are community supported. Attendees buy raffle tickets at the concerts to win prizes that are donated by local businesses.
“The folks not only get to have great music and meet other nice people and have great food, but they get to support the concerts for next year too,” Tom Hersant, board member for the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, said.
Stagecoach Park will host the next three Friday night concerts June 26, July 3 and July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. A full schedule can
