SAN MARCOS — The city of San Marcos Community Services will sponsor a Discover San Marcos hike to Daley Ranch Preserve on June 6. This free hike will offer either a 3-mile route or a more challenging 6-mile route. Hikers can bring a sack lunch to enjoy in the shade of massive oak trees near the historic 1928 ranch house.
Daley Ranch Preserve is the former working ranch of English immigrant Robert Daley, who settled in the area in 1869. The Daley family continued to use the ranch as a summer home for several decades. Since 1996, the 3,058-acre ranch has been a natural habitat preserve managed by the city of Escondido.
Hikers can meet at the trailhead parking lot on La Honda Drive, off of El Norte Parkway in Escondido. Parking is limited and carpooling is recommended. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m; the hike will start at 9 a.m. An adult must accompany all minors. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended, and bring water and trail snacks. Dogs must be leashed at all times. For information on hikes or the city’s trails, visit www.san-marcos.net or call (760) 744-9000, ext. 3508 or ext. 3535.
