SAN MARCOS — Palomar College Alumnus Vince Roberts will be honored at the college’s May 22 Commencement Ceremonies as 2009 Alumnus of the Year. Roberts is the executive vice president of the Disney-ABC Television Group.
Roberts, who graduated from Palomar in 1976, will be recognized for his outstanding career achievements.
A founding employee of Disney Channel, Roberts joined the network in 1983 as a staff engineer, and went on to serve as director of operations and engineering, and later, as vice president of engineering and operations. During his tenure with Disney, he led a group of engineers, managers and operational specialists in developing one of the country’s first video file server-based broadcast operations. Roberts was also responsible for establishing Disney’s first international broadcast operation — Walt Disney Television Singapore — launching Disney Channel Taiwan in March of 1995. Later that year he played a key role in developing Disney Channel’s first technical facilities operation in the U.K.
Roberts graduated from Vista High School in 1972. Continuing his education, he went on to graduate from Palomar College and San Francisco State University.
Roberts and his wife Mary live in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Palomar College’s Commencement ceremony begins at 5 p.m. on the football practice field at the San Marcos campus, located at 1140 West Mission Road.
