HEADING FOR HUNGARY

The Carlsbad Optimist Club President John Aldrich, left, welcomed Tal Haslam and Tyler Healey, two members of the Carlsbad High School Boys Water Polo team, and CUSD School board member Lisa Rodman, who reviewed the itinerary for the team’s trip to Hungary planned for June 2009. The team has earned a portion of the expenses to pay their way and the Optimists have agreed to a contribution to assist the fundraising efforts. Needing $2,800 per athlete, each boy is participating in raising his support and are reaching out to request a donation to help offset the team’s trip expenses for 17 boys, two coaches, a team mom and six chaperones. Send checks made out to: CHS Water Polo Team c/o Lisa Rodman, 3494 Seacrest, Carlsbad, CA 92008. In 2008, the Carlsbad High School boys water polo team won its sixth consecutive CIF title. To motivate and stretch the team, the coaches will have the boys play against some of the top players in the world as they travel to Hungary, the water polo capital of the world. They will practice and scrimmage several times per day with local Hungarian water polo clubs and compete in an international tournament.
