Lacrosse youth league opens teams for new players

COAST CITIES — The California Youth Lacrosse leagues, for both boys and girls, is looking for young athletes.
The cost to participate in the California Youth Lacrosse leagues is $300. What has traditionally been known as an East Coast sport is now finding a comfortable home in the West, according to Rory Doucette of Adrenaline Lacrosse. According to Doucette, youth participation in the sport has grown more than 500 percent since 1999 with major expansion at both the high school and college level. There are more than 500 college programs in action, and 200 of them are on the women’s side.
The California Youth Lacrosse leagues have been designed with a feeder system in mind. This was created in order to have the youngsters play together from their first year of team lacrosse through their high school years.
In Carmel Valley, sign-up is available for boys’ teams for first- and second-grade, third- and fourth-grade and fifth- and sixth-grade. They also have girls’ teams for third- and fourth-grade and fifth- and sixth-grade.
In Carlsbad, open teams are boys’ third- and fourth-grade and boys’ fifth- and sixth-grade, as well as girl’s fifth- and sixth-grade teams.
For Del Mar/Solana Beach, open teams include boys’ first- and second grade, third- and fourth-grade and fifth- and sixth grade. For girls, there are third- and fourth-grade fifth- and sixth-grade teams.
Encinitas offers boys teams for first- and second-grade, third- and fourth-grade and fifth- and sixth-grade. For girls, there are third- and fourth-grade and fifth- and sixth-grade teams open.
In Rancho Santa Fe, CYL is offering boys’ teams first- and second-grade, third- and fourth-grade and fifth- and sixth-grade and girls’ teams for are third- and fourth-grade fifth- and sixth-grade.
