Kids sponsor carnival to help animals

VISTA — It’s not just the grown-ups who make the world a better place. The mastermind for the Feb. 8 Kidz 4 Kritterz fundraising carnival held at Ciao’s Ristorante Italiano was 12-year-old Vistan Hunter Hults.
The proceeds from the event went to the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary. sHunter was motivated by the example of his aunt who had recently passed away. She had loved and cared for a pair of diabetic cats.
“I want to give the animals around the world the same care she gave those two cats,” Hunter said.
The industrious boy garnered a decent-sized crowd despite the cold, threatening weather. No surprise: he had attended every farmer’s market in Bonsall in Falbrook for the last six months, promoting the event.
There was plenty to do outside, from the “dog pen” one could lock friends in to the bounce house. The outdoor entertainments had to be packed up early, however, thanks to a sudden downpour. The attendees, undeterred, just took the party inside. Sunshine the clown made an energetic visit, and three young women of Vista High School’s new animal rights club ran a number of children’s activities.
“There’s a lot of places that need our help,” club founder Janet Correa said. “People don’t realize it. I felt I needed to do something about it … with slow steps, we will.”
Because of the bad weather, Hunter said he plans on repeating the event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 22. For more information, visit www.kidz4kritterz.com.
