SAN MARCOS — Construction work on the Barham Drive street widening project will begin Jan. 5. The work will take place between the Highway 78 eastbound off-ramp and the eastern city limits, just west of Opper Street.
Temporary traffic control measures will be in place as needed, including lane closures and a temporary stop sign at the Highway 78 on-ramp. Lane closures will only occur between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, the speed limit in the construction zone will be reduced to 25 mph. Work will also occur at the underpass on Woodland Parkway with traffic control measures in place to Rancheros Drive. Periodic night work may occur as necessary.
Drivers are advised to use extreme caution when driving through the work zone and are strongly recommended to consider alternate routes during construction.
Plans for this capital improvement project include widening Barham Drive from Woodland Parkway to the Highway 78 eastbound on-ramp, undergrounding utilities from Woodland Parkway to the eastern city limits, and installing sidewalk and landscaping along the full stretch of the project area.
Improvements also include replacing the masonry walls in front of Casitas Del Sol and San Marcos Mobile Estates with higher sound walls. A future phase will widen Barham Drive from Highway 78 through Mission Road in cooperation with the city of Escondido. The city expects to complete this work by the end of spring 2010.
