CARLSBAD — Rabbi Yeruchem Eilfort, director of Chabad at La Costa, has announced that the chabad’s grand Hanukkah celebration at the Forum Shops in South Carlsbad near the corner of Calle Barcelona and El Camino Real, is being dedicated to the memory of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka. The Holtzbergs were the Chabad Emissaries located in Mumbai, India, and were two of the hundreds of victims of the recent terrorist attack.
The event will be held Dec. 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. and will include a giant menorah lighting ceremony, face painting, Hanukkah foods like potato pancakes and jelly doughnuts, music, entertainment and prizes for the children.
Rabbi Eilfort said, “A close friend, Suzanne Haray, who lives out of state and will not even be able to attend the event, called me and expressed the desire to sponsor this year’s Hanukkah Celebration in memory of the Holtzbergs and the other victims of the Mumbai terrorist attacks. I enthusiastically accepted the offer and explained that the way the Jewish people have traditionally fought evil and darkness is by adding light. What more symbolic addition of light can there be than lighting the and Hanukkah menorah?”
Rabbi Eilfort added that Chabad at La Costa is embarking on a campaign to supply Menorahs to anyone who needs one free of charge. All that is asked is that the menorah be used to fulfill the Mitzvah, or divine commandment, of lighting lights on Hanukkah and remembering the Holtzbergs and all other victims of the Mumbai attack.
