Kids Korps volunteers give back to community

NORTH COUNTY — Youngsters from area Kids Korps groups kept busy during October.
Volunteers from the Pacific Rim Chapter learned the importance of clearing the lagoon areas of large invasive plants and trash. Volunteers learned that this is necessary so that vegetation along the lagoon can continue to flourish for future visitors. Not only did Kids Korps members work hard at the task, but they also enjoyed an educational tour.
Members of the Santa Fe Christian Kids Korps Chapter recently hosted a ghoulish and festive Halloween party for the youngsters of St. Leo’s Head Start Preschool. Between cookie decorating and masks making, little ones were seen playing ghost bowling and toss the hoop around the Halloween baskets with their teen mentors.
“Teens from the middle and high school have such fun with these precious children and come over on a regular basis,” Santa Fe Christian Kids Korps Chapter Leader, Linda Kharrazian said. “Many of these students know the kids by name and the youngsters eagerly anticipate these joyous events with their older friends.”
Santa Fe Christian School is already planning a special Christmas party for Dec. 12. Santa is coming and gifts will be given out to each child. To get involved or to donate gifts, call the Kids Korps office at (858) 259-3602.
In mid-October, members of the Rancho Santa Fe Kids Korps chapter went to the Escondido Child Development Center where they threw a Halloween party for children from low-income neighborhoods. They collected Halloween costumes for them to wear for several weeks before the party and had different stations for them to go to such as the mummy game, the photo frame craft, the book reading station, the candy ghost station and the cotton ball cauldron.
