RANCHO SANTA FE — More than 100 golfers teed up to make the 16th annual Golf Classic one that will be remembered for years to come. Rancho Santa Fe Golf Course hosted the event, which benefits the Rancho Santa Fe Community Center.
Seventeen teams competed, and while the competition was lively, it was always for a good cause.
“The weather was terrific and everyone had a great time, especially at the after party,” Erin Leahey, director of development at the Rancho Santa Fe Community Center, said.
The classic was co-chaired by Carey Cimino and Connie Pittard, who helped gather sponsors for the event, including many local businesses and family support.
More than 30 volunteers helped stage the event.
There was competition within the competition for players. Golfers were not only vying for Best Team but also had chances to win Closest to Pin, Straightest Drive and Longest Drive.
At three different holes players also had opportunities to bid on silent auction items.
The winning men’s team of this year’s tournament was Jim Williams, Mike Cooper, Willy Ayyad and Robert Walz. The winning women’s team was Joy Ankeny, Cathy Hopf, Kathy Flather and Shari Fapp.
“I’d like to thank all our sponsors and after-party restaurant hosts who helped make this event such a success,” Leahey said. Funds raised by the classic help support the community center and, in particular, scholarships provided by the Rancho Santa Fe Community Center. “We’re making a push to help our scholarships, which give all children in the Ranch equal opportunities,” Leahey said.
