CARLSBAD — The city of Carlsbad is accepting applications for the 2008-09 Community Activity Grants program. This program makes $40,000 available to provide grants to community service groups or individuals.
In order to apply for the grant funds, an application must be completed and received no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 31. Applications are available at the city’s finance department, 1635 Faraday Ave. and on the city Web site at www.ci.carlsbad.ca.us. Applications will be reviewed by a Citizen Committee. The committee will then make a recommendation to City Council for final approval in December.
The grants are designed to provide enrichment programs to the Carlsbad community. An enrichment program is any program that enhances the quality of life for Carlsbad residents and/or visitors. These grants are intended to provide alternatives to other city programs such as the Community Development Block Grants by providing grants for services that may not be eligible under these other programs. Thus, any organization currently receiving funding from another city program is not eligible for a Community Activity Grant. In the past, recipients of a Community Activity Grant were limited to three years of funding. Three-year grant recipients may now reapply for this grant, as long as they have not received funding in the last two years.
If you have any questions regarding the Community Activity Grants or if you would like to obtain an application, contact the city finance department at (760) 602-2430.
