Acoustic duo “Fly to Blue” have roots that started right here in North County. David Gunn grew up in Vista and began surfing Swami's and Cardiff as a youngster. After meeting music partner Valarie Mulberry while living on Maui, the two began a collaboration project. Since forming “Fly to Blue” five years ago, the duo has been performing regularly up and down the California coastline. With shows in Hawaii, New York and the Northwest, the duo have built a strong and loyal following, based almost entirely on their dynamic live performances. Their music is a bewitching blend of yin and yang, of two voices that were certainly made to sing together. Their songs evoke the dichotomy of youth and maturity, hard living and innocence and a big dose of the surfer’s code with that of a cosmopolitan country-girl. By presenting and array of songs that make the listener think and feel deeply, Fly to Blue create a unique combination that harken to that of Leonard Cohen, the Cowboy Junkies and Bruce Springsteen. For their last stop on their San Diego tour, the Santa Barbara duo “Fly to Blue” perform at the Encinitas hot spot, the E Street Café from 7 to 9pm on Saturday, April 18th.
