A 40-year-old man was convicted Aug. 13 of rape and domestic violence charges relating to an incident with his ex-wife last summer in her Encinitas home.

A fire that raged July 21 in brush along Leucadia Boulevard and Garden View Drive was caused by a cooking fire in the canyon area according to Encinitas Fire Marshal Robert Scott. The fire started in a remote area where there are no power lines or other ignition sources he said.
