Train kills pedestrian in apparent suicide

ENCINITAS — In an apparent suicide, an unidentified white male victim was struck and killed by a southbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday near Vulcan Street and F Street, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Amos.
Encinitas Sheriff’s deputies and Amtrak officials responded to the scene to investigate the collision and collect evidence.
Medical examiners arrived at the collision site shortly after 10 a.m. to inspect the body.
The Surfliner train involved in the collision remained at the scene until just after 10 a.m, with all of its passengers remaining onboard.
Some train traffic resumed at about 10:35 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing, and the victim’s identity has not yet been released.
