It is truly sas that so many just don’t get it. Hatha Yoga and all forms of (real) are Hinduism–this is fact. If one wants to teach stretching and relaxing, do that. Divorcing Hatha Yoga, etc. from Hinduism is teaching children and others to be dishonest and disrespectful to Hindus.

Good for Encinitas school district. Don’t back down to a small percentage of ill informed Moms with a lawyer. As a Mom in the Encinitas school district I have been pleased to have Basic Stretching and Relaxing in the curriculium. These kids need it to relax. Stop making it something it’s not.

Why any parent would pull their child out if this is beyond me. I wish they offered it back when I attended Ocean Knoll in the 1970s! Yoga is about taping into your inner strength and centering your thoughts on your physical and mental well being. There is no indoctrinating of religion in that any more than there is a religious aspect to stretching and going for a run. Sounds like some parents need to grow up themselves. What are they teaching their child by excluding them? That they should be fearful of things brought here by other cultures/countries? Isn’t that what school is for, expanding the child’s horizons and opening their eyes to the bigger world? If you want your child to grow up in a tiny bubble with no influences of “outside” experiences, good luck to you, and good luck to your isolated child.
