Tiger takes the lead; Mickelson just ekes by to make the cut
TORREY PINES – Under rainy skies Tiger Woods managed to regain his old form of domination at Torrey Pines during day two of the Farmers Insurance Open.
Woods shot a 7-under round of 65 to propel him to the top of the leader board at 11-under for the tournament.
Talking to the media after his round, he talked about the amount of success he’s had at Torrey Pines. “There are certain golf courses where I’ve had some success on. This is one of them. Fireston, Augusta, Doral – I’ve done pretty good at – Bay Hill – there are few courses over the course of my career that I’ve really played well. This happens to be one of them, and we happen to have a major on it, and I’ve won it,” he said.
Phil Mickelson finished his round with a 1-under to just make the cut. He said he knew he had some work to do over the weekend, and if he’s doing it at Torrey Pines, great. “If not, I’ll be practicing trying to get ready for next week.
“It’s just a fraction off,” he added. “I just don’t quite feel great. I’ve thrown a lot of shots away on the greens, and my iron play hasn’t been as good as it has been heading into the start of the year. So it’s just a fraction off. I’ve got a few tournaments coming up now. I’ll be playing the next three after this as well. So I want to see if I can get it turned around and get it going,” he said.
