Hometown singer will perform at Kennedy Center Sunday
Joey Pearson, San Dieguito Academy Class of 2010, will perform at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on Sunday at a “Let Freedom Ring” concert celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday.
He’ll sing an original song titled, “Anything” written for the event by musical director Nolan Williams, Jr. Grammy-award winner Smokey Robinson will also perform.
Joey is a junior, on a full scholarship, in the Foreign Service School at Georgetown University.
A 2002 semi-finalist on the TV show, “Star Search,” he performed locally at the San Diego County Fair, Borders Books in The Forum, House of Blues, Seaport Village and Qualcomm Stadium — and occasionally with The MarDels. He was also a popular AVID teacher at SDA, Torrey Pines High School, Earl Warren Middle School and Oakcrest Middle School. After graduating next year, he plans to return to San Diego. “I can’t wait to see my friends and start teaching again,” he said.
“I especially miss having Justin Burritos at Rico’s and picking up warm VG donuts in the evenings and eating them down at the beach.”
The concert will be broadcast live at 3 p.m. PT at: kennedy-center.org/explorer/live.
