Encinitas Sheriff’s volunteer patrol

I do not understand Ms. Hochberg’s concerns about the Sheriff’s Volunteer

Patrol home vacation checks program. (Letters 12/21/12) The checks are only done at the request of a homeowner and the number of repeat homeowners who request it shows it has a meaningful value to them.

The vacation check often finds unlocked doors and includes bringing in newspapers and flyers that otherwise would accumulate in the driveway.

These services provide more protection than the possibility that a criminal might see the Patrol during the random few minutes they are there each day.
