All parents should have a choice as to where to educate their children. It is sad when a good education comes in second to the needs of the Carlsbad Unified School District that cowers to Union self-interest.

Supportive parents and the Charter School administration are fully within their legal rights. Provide a choice to the parents of school children in Carlsbad by contacting your local school board member.

The Pacific Justice Institute (916-857-6900) should be contacted immediately. They are chartered to protect the civil liberties of parents. It is unwise for the District to engage in costly legal action at a cost to taxpayers.

Facts about Oxford Prep is slowly emerging and CUSD is in panic mode as they are realized that this is going to be bad PR. Nothing they say will be credible. CUSD should have been upfront and honest in their dealings with OPA. Rather, they relied on lies and deceit from Suzanne O'Connell and Superintendent Lovely. This is a PR mess for CUSD.

This is the first time I read this article. The meeting to say the least one sided, and the district presented wrong and misleading information, did not let OPA speak, and it was a sad day to witness the process our district uses to lead the board to vote the way they want them too. If that wasn't the case then they would have let Oxford Administrators speak and answer the questions that the lawyer or district could not. It was not as Americans are used to seeing, normally we have two sides to every issue and they both have a voice and we are not to seeing censorship in this manor and in this type of a forum. If anything needs to change so our children have a chance at a solid good education that is what needs to change, because they have proven there is only one side the CUSD side. He who controls the information controls everything, and that is what the district proved to us that night. We should all speak up about the "process" they use to keep education options out and how they spend our money. This carries over into Sage Creek, Buena VIsta, all the major issues our district is having. We don't have a voice until we change their process and they let us the public hear all the information both sides present so we can be educated on the issues, not have to rely on what the CUSD side is as they twist and manipulate the information to fit their agenda!

This demonstrates how the current educational power structure in carlsbad wants to limit choice. Clearly parents like myself are dissatisfied with the current offerings and want a new solution. Example, a recent survey of the federal dept of education found that 72% of kindergarden programs in the US are full day (6+ hours). Studies have shown that full day programs allow children to better absorb the material they have learned, in comparison to half days. But the carlsbad school district currently only offers my kids a 3 hour program!! This must change- we need choice. Support charter schools!
