SOLANA BEACH — The contest deadline to name the seventh school in the Solana Beach School District is just around the corner.
Students, parents and staff members have until Sept. 18 to submit their ideas. Entries must include the reason for the naming choice.
Once the contest ends the school design committee will review all submissions and present a list of the top five choices to the district’s board of directors. Members will select the new name at a regularly scheduled meeting during the current school year.
To submit a recommendation, visit the school website at sbsd.k12.ca.us and click on the survey monkey link.
The new facility will serve students in kindergarten through sixth grade. It will also include a child development center preschool and before and after school care options.
Located on 13605 Pacific Highlands Ranch Parkway, it will serve students who live within the Solana Beach School District boundaries in Pacific Highlands Ranch.
The goal is to have it open for the 2014-15 school year.
Pacific Highlands Ranch, a 2,652-acre community, is bounded by the Fairbanks Ranch to the north, Torrey Highlands to the east, Del Mar Mesa to the south and Carmel Valley to the west.
Current elementary schools within the district include Solana Vista, Skyline, Solana Santa Fe, Carmel Creek, Solana Highlands and Solana Pacific. Solana Santa Fe is the only K-6 school.
The others serve either kindergarten through grades three or four, fourth-graders through sixth-graders or fifth- and sixth-graders. Skyline also includes the kindergarten through sixth-grade global education program.
