Sorry for misspelling your name, Anton Gerschler. Also in the 3rd from the last paragraph, I meant:

I don’t understand why you also get so much funding from the Farmer’s Market. We citizens, as taxpayers and as consumers are funding your private organization, rather than your own membership fees. Feels like another hidden tax.

Pardon the typos; off to the Artwalk! I hope the Artwalk banners being banned, through Mayor Stocks, who like Jim Bond wants maximum development, and supports the streetscam plan, along with more high-density mixed use for Leucadia, won't cut back too much on attendance this year.

Sounds as though more high-density mixed use is what you're trying to twist into "a new kind of funky." NOT. Buzzwords and jingoism may work for you, but people with homes around the proposed project know we'd mainly like to be left alone, not have the streescam plan crammed down our neighborhood's throat.

"New kind of funky" is a contradiction in terms; it's code for a generic "main street association" style plan that some pro-development Planners would like all across Encinitas and countrywide. The supposed object is to get people out of their cars and onto bicycles, and walking the streets, into plaza style developments lobbied for by merchant associations and developers. Businesses and developers would benefit, neighbors and commuters would lose out. Also, mixed use, high density development would proliferate because so-called "roundabouts" count as traffic mitigation and the corridors where they're installed aren't formally graded, and couldn't get an "F," even when there's gridlock!

The City hasn't given time for the new lowered speed limits, reduced to 35 MPH, to be effectively enforced!

Again and again, Anton Geshler falsely claims that the majority of neighbors and businesses support the plan which includes five traffic circles which were "sold" as roundabouts, which have wider radiuses and more safety features. Never does Gerschler provide ANY evidence of his claims.

Almost two thirds of those voting at the most widely attended workshop at City Hall said we DON'T want a plan that includes traffic circles and a lane diet. Over 81% of neighbors polled said we don't want the "streetscam" plan! Mike Andreen, when he was working for the original Encinitas Chamber of Commerce, also took a poll of businesses along the area where traffic circles and the lane diet are to be implemented. A majority said no.

Business owners and individuals have been bullied and threatened by one particular member of the Leucadia 101 Mainstreet Association. One business owner was told his business would be shut down. I was threatened that I would lose my home (I'm not a business owner, but one of the 81% majority of residents west of North 101 that don't want cut through traffic and slower emergency response times).

Another business owner had extremely derogatory made about his wife on the Leucadia Blog. There are a few "operatives" who seem obsessed with roundabouts, that post under anonymous names, that take the opportunity to twist public opinion and drive away anyone who disagrees by cyberbulling.

Most people don't want angled parking and a lane diet. Your piece is long on your personal history and short on facts, Mr. Geshler.

I'm sure you've done good works, through your association. It's great that Mark Patterson got to install his piece near JP's place, the Ipe' Cafe. I'm sure that is a mutually beneficial arrangement. My feeling is that the City shouldn't have to subsidize business associations. They should be paid for through members' dues. We are essentially paying you to lobby for a plan that the majority of residents and businesses polled DO NOT WANT.

After reading through all your many words reminiscing about your personal history in Leucadia, and promoting your lawfirm, we get to this statement: "Don’t blame poor emergency response times on the Streetscape plan. Blame that one on the Leucadia community . . ."

Are you kidding me? Do you know IF the City were NOT to do the Streetscam as planned, and didn't undertake any of the remaining underground pedestrian bridges, north of the one being installed at Santa Fe, we would have about $30 million or more to actually UNDERGROUND THE TRAIN. Once all the money is drained into giving a few business owners big benefits at the expense of cut through traffic and slower emergency response times, there would NEVER be an opportunity to underground the train. I don't agree "that ship has sailed." It's still feasible, if we eliminate projects that the public doesn't support!

I NEVER remember our community "turning down" the opportunity to underground the train. When did that happen? I never was informed we had an option! In all your words about you, Mr. Geshler, You NEVER address neighbors concerns about cut through traffic.

Cut through traffic would affect public safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and beachgoers along Neptune Avenue and the safety in a school zone, Paul Ecke Central, on Vulcan Avenue, and sidestreets west of North 101, such as Third Street and La Veta Avenue. We already have slower emergency response times due to the narrow streets here, and due to the already existing traffic circles on Leucadia Blvd.

People DO DIVERT FROM I-5 when its congested, and blocked. They DO drive through Del Mar, when they have no choice. Pam Slater-Price, who lives in Del Mar is concerned about cut through traffic in her community. She is urging citizens of Del Mar to vote NO on traffic circles when they vote on their specific plan. The roundabout at 15th St. has already been eliminated. Solana Beach, because of neighbors' concerns and costs, has abandoned its plans for roundabouts/traffic circles.

If you care about the law, Mr. Geschler, why don't you get on the City of Encinitas for BANNING citizens from applying for permits for banners, temporary signs in the public right of way, while Mayor Stocks appointed a subcommittee to further review the law? It took Sabine & Morrison over 4 months to come up with alternatives for new code; now there will be further delay. Current code shouldn't be "suspended" without due process of law! If you're so concerned about the artists' community, you should have been there last Wednesday night advocating that the banners promoting the artwalk this Sunday should have been allowed to be installed on the lightposts, as in years past!

We can keep Leucadia Funky without putting in traffic circles and implementing a lane diet. Every piece I"ve seen written in favor of it has come from Leucadia Mainstreet Association. You don't speak for the majority. That last workshop, where another survey was taken, didn't represent the opposition, who hasn't been well funded and organized as your group is. I don't understand why you also get so much funding from the Farmer's Market. We citizens, as taxpayers and as consumers are funding your private organization, rather than your own membershreclariantip fees. Feels like another hidden tax.

You are categorizing and putting down a lot of longtime residents and longtime business owners, whom you describe as 21st century deniers and "recalcitrant merchants." That doesn't sound accurate or respectful.

The majority doesn't support the streetscam plan. We do support keeping Leucadia funky and preserving what's left of the canopy. North Highway 101 is a major roadway. The plan also calls for eliminating or relocating bus stops. It's not in our best interests, but I can see why you might like more parking and more business, higher property values, all at taxpayers and the neighbors' expense!
