Camp out a sell-out success
SOLANA BEACH — A record 45 families pitched tents at La Colonia Park to enjoy stories, songs, spaghetti and s’mores — but not much sleep — during the fifth annual Solana Beach Family Camp Out.
The sold-out event included first-timers, veterans and at least one camper who has been participating all his life.
Gina McConnell was pregnant when she and her husband Michael and their daughters Ava and Finley came from Irvine to spend the night in 2010. The family returned in 2011 and this year their son Troy celebrated his second birthday with breakfast served by Solana Beach firefighters.
“Once again, everything went great,” said Kirk Wenger, from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, which hosts the event. “Thanks goes out to Boy Scout Troop 782 for preparing and serving the spaghetti dinner and the Fire Department for providing the pancake breakfast.”
