Tot lot celebrates ten year anniversary with fun, families

DEL MAR — It’s been 10 years since the seaside tot lot at Powerhouse Park was completed, and Friends of the Powerhouse turned the milestone into a fundraiser for another city project.
Money raised at the Sept. 3 celebration will benefit the soon-to-be-built 17th Street safety center and lifeguard headquarters.
Drawings of the new facility were on display. Lifeguards and representatives from Friends of the Powerhouse were on hand to answer questions about the project.
The three-hour event included free face painting and games donated by Pinky’s Big Top, a hot dog, chips and soda for $5 and, of course, birthday cake.
Construction of the approximately $2.7 million safety center is expected to begin this fall and take about a year.
Commemorative bricks for the new boardwalk are also available for $250.
