Hey EUSD, how about teaching my kid to type by 6th grade? We own an ipad, he can work it, but maybe we can use regular old computers at school, and teach them to type! I have never, once, ever, heard from the computer teacher about what programs the students are learning at school, nor is there any curriculum, ever....Why do we expect EUSD to do better with the ipads?

They don't mention in this article that the parents have to sign a waiver for the kids to bring the iPad home. And if something happens to it guess who is paying for it? Yes us parents.

iPads are dramatically changing the educational lanscape and adding a new level of

excitement to teaching. To safely store, charge and sync ipads or any mobile device when not

in use, please visit visualedtech.com for secure cabinets and carts that will store and

This might be very impressive to people who are reading it, who are not parents familiar with some of the early computer labs that were at different schools and largely sat unused since the teachers were not skilled to teach with them.

There is a big difference between spending a lot of money on technology--as the District continues to do, and hiring or training staff on what to do with it. EUSD has ALWAYS been behind in terms of the ability of teachers and administrators to use technology. Baird is a case in point. He insisted that the District change the programs used to store and track information to a system that he is familiar with, instead of learning a new system himself. In addition, EUSD has always had TV's, videos, and sets of Disney movies to play during school hours. As you can see, just because they spend our money on technology doesn't mean that there are positive results to show for it.
