Thank you Wehtahnah for an excellent story.
Maggie was a magical person who was forever coming up with ways to serve and improve our community.
The Encinitas Garden Festival & Tour started as Maggie's brainchild. In 2003, she came up with the kernel of an idea while serving on the Cultural Tourism Committee. With typical Maggie enthusiasm, she turned to the community to recruit volunteers to bring her idea to life. Then, not one to get things started and walk away, Maggie participated as an active member of Encinitas Garden Festival & Tour organizing committee.
2012 will mark the Encinitas Garden Festival & Tour's seventh annual event, and our first without our firebrand member, Maggie.
As chairperson, I know I speak for our entire group in saying that we can't imagine life without our dear friend and colleague, Maggie. She was our inspiration, she kept us going when we were ran into challenges, she was a wizard at attracting donated items for our event, and she lit up the room when she arrived at our monthly meetings - always a bit late, always coming from one commitment and on her way to the next - yet always smiling and ready to get down to work.
I can think of no better way to honor Maggie's memory than to continue our celebration of community, gardening, and the horticultural heritage of Encinitas. Its our way of saying "Thank you Maggie, we love you."
