As this article and the news about this proposed project spreads, people in other parts of Olivenhain and different areas of Encinitas are getting involved.

Encinitas became a city in the first place because of the leadership of people like our 1st mayor, Marge Gaines, who was an Olivenhain resident. She promoted the idea of a city to fight these types of land use abuses in Olivenhain and elsewhere in the Encinitas area.

It was her vision that under the umbrella of a City, that each of the Encinitas communities could preserve their individual identities.

We have seen what developers have done to Leucadia, Cardiff, and Old Encinitas. Many Olivenhain residents moved away from the coast to avoid the types of development that have taken place there, and purchased properties with the assurance that they were moving to an area with a particular zoning that would support the safety and lifestyle that we all agreed upon when we joined this community.

A simple solution to this problem would be for the developer to build the 7 or fewer, high-quality homes that this challenging property is zoned for.

This reminds me of the long battle that residents in Elfin Forest fought to close down the landfill. Although not exactly the same issue, the hope is the same… to keep the community rural, safe, and beautiful for all to enjoy without the high density problems that evolved in San Elijo Hills.

Ours is a community where people come to raise families, enjoy animals, or to retire. There is a particular lifestyle that draws people here, and these developers want place a high-density complex into a beautiful area for profit and no other reason. If this is allowed to happen, everything in this entire neighborhood will change.
