OCEANSIDE — Tribes from across the Southwest gathered for the 15th annual Inter-Tribal Pow Wow at Mission San Luis Rey June 11 and June 12.
“We have some tribes from Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico,” Carmen Mojado, pow wow organizer, said. “They come from all over.”
The two-day event shared performances of Native American dances, drumming and bird singing and demonstrations of basket weaving. All tribes participated in the grand opening ceremony that recognized pow wow organizers and lead dancers. The ceremony closed with the friendship dance in which spectators were invited to participate.
Other event highlights included artisan craft booths, Indian tacos and fry bread
