CARLSBAD — The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation is hosting a month full of events that the public is invited to be part of. The Lagoon Discovery Center is at 1580 Cannon Road.
A Watershed Clean Up is set from 8:30 a.m. to noon March 12. Join “Team Discovery Center” to remove debris from our watershed at the Lake Calavera Clean Up. Park at Calavera Hills Elementary School and walk across to the Tamarack entrance to the trail. Meet at the dam spillway to join us. Experts on the volcano and habitat will talk as we go. A Lagoon Birding Walk will be held at 8:30 a.m. March 13. Meet at the Lagoon Discovery Center for an introduction to the wide variety of birds you’ll find around the lagoon. Perhaps you’ll catch a glimpse of our resident roadrunner.
A lecture on Energy Conservation will be held at 7 p.m. March 16. There will be a presentation by SDG&E on how to utilize the new smart meter technology to reduce our own energy consumption.
World Water Day Festival is set from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 26. The World Water Day Festival is a family event, with activities, exhibits and displays focusing on local and global water issues. The festival will include Sea Life Aquarium: Underwater Habitats; The Splashmobile; craft booths and facepainting; Wildlife Encounters: Frogs & Toads; Carlsbad Desalination Project; Hubbs-Seaworld Fish Hatchery; Wetlands & Watersheds Models; Waste Water Treatment; Water Conservation — Native Garden Tours and information; and Carlsbad Aqua Farm oysters and mussels for sale.
The Lagoon Discovery Center also offers yoga by day and by night. Imagine practicing yoga with stunning lagoon sunset views, or on a sunny peaceful morning, with the light glittering off the glassy water. Drop the gym and head over to the Lagoon Discovery Center for classes on either Monday and Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. or Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8:30 a.m. Drop-ins are welcome.
