CARDIFF — A severed ear, absinthe bottle, sunflowers and a card were found at the base of the “Cardiff Kook” on March 30 in celebration of Vincent van Gogh’s birthday.
The statue is decked out in full costume and an easel was welded to fit on the nose of the board. There is a painting of the view from the sculpture in a post-impressionism style.
In addition, six paper mache crows are scattered around the sculpture and in the nearby intersection.
Carlsbad artist Bryan Snyder is taking credit for the installation. He painted the canvas, created all the accessories and installed everything with one assistant.
