SOLANA BEACH — The Second Annual Pigskin Classic flag football game at Santa Fe Christian School brought out 60 dads Feb. 5 for some fundraising fun.
The event is held each February on the Saturday prior to the Super Bowl because “we don’t want to overshadow the NFL,” said Doug Miller, SFC dad and captain of the winning team, The Love Handles.
This year’s event raised $4,000 for new weight-training equipment.
Ranging in age from 29 to 73, the dads played in game-worn jerseys and were led by the varsity Santa Fe Christian football coaches. With a thought toward leveling the playing field, the game rules included that any dad over age 45 who scored a touchdown was awarded bonus points.
